Hi! Welcome to my website. My name is Alix Sobler and I am a playwright and performer in New York. In addition to my theater/tv/movie obsession, I am also a dog/cat/crafting enthusiast.
Here’s the official stuff:
Alix Sobler is a writer of theater, television, and film based in New York City. This spring, her play The Glass Piano will had its world premiere at The Coronet Theatre in London. Recently, her play Sheltered won the 2018 Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition and received a world premiere at Alliance Theater in 2018, and will have a second production at Theater J in 2020. Other plays have won or been finalists for multiple awards, including the Canadian Jewish Playwriting Competition, The Gulfshore Playhouse New Play Series, the Columbia@Roundabout New Play Contest, the National Playwrights Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center (finalist), the Henley Rose Playwriting Competition (finalist), and the Jane Chambers Award (runner-up), among others. She is currently developing with with Theatre J (Washington, DC), Fault Line Theater (New York), and she is writing a solo show with and for mental health advocate, water activist, and former first lady of Canada, Margaret Trudeau. The show, entitled Certain Woman of an Age, has had workshop productions at Chicago’s Second City Theater, the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, and will be recorded for Audible this fall at Minetta Lane Theater in NYC. Alix has had other work read or produced in theaters across North America including the Roundabout Theatre Company (New York, NY), The Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.), South Coast Repertory (Costa Mesa, CA), The Finborough Theatre (London, UK), Segal Centre (Montreal QC), Fiasco Theater Company (New York, NY), The Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Stratford, ON), Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre (Winnipeg, MB), Theatre Ariel (Philadelphia, PA), Gulfshore Playhouse (Naples, FL), Chicago’s Theatre Seven (Chicago, IL), Prairie Theatre Exchange (Winnipeg, MB), Brown Trinity Playwright’s Rep (Providence, RI), The Tank (New York, NY), and others. She is a graduate of Brown University and received her MFA in playwriting from Columbia University, where she was honored to study with David Henry Hwang, Lynn Nottage and Charles Mee, among others. She is also passionate about teaching playwriting and theater to up-and-coming artists, hobbyists, children, and anyone interested in expressing themselves.
