Solo Performance Workshop at PTE

2416100250_aa478b3496

I am excited to be teaching a Solo Performance Workshop at PTE for thier spring semester. This is something I have wanted to get into for a long time, and I hope that this is just the first of many.  Because it is such a short class (only five weeks) it will be more about developing the skills that go into making a solo show, than developing actual shows. However, if you come with an idea in mind, this class will definitely help you jump start a new project. Here is the description of the class (and of me) that PTE sent out:

ALIX SOBLER teaching a great SOLO SHOW workshop for adult performers at PTE

This class will focus on learning and developing solo work, but because it is such a short class it is not about mounting a show. It is more about helping people find their voice, develop writing and performing skills and setting about creating larger works eventually.

April 21 – May 24, 2009 — Fun five-week classes to spice

Alix Sobler is a writer and performer who has been creating solo work for more than 10 years. She has written 5 solo shows, and toured four of them throughout the United States and Canada . Through humour and character work, her solo shows have addressed everything from STDs to the de-industrialization of North America . Her work can often be heard on CBC radio (Definitely Not The Opera, The Content Factory), including a one-hour special on The 204.  She is also a playwright and dramaturge and has worked with other solo performers like Trish Cooper , Jason Neufeld and Deb Filler. With a strong background in comedy and dramatic structure, Alix has taught many theatre and writing classes and looks forward to teaching the solo performance class at PTE. She studied solo performance at Brown University , where she earned a BA in performance and playwriting.

If you have ever considered doing solo performance, or are looking to develop a new show, this class might be just what you are looking for.

New Book Blog

alix-on-the-2042

Thanks to all of you who tuned into the Passover Special on The 204 last weekend. The response has been amazing. Let’s hope there will be more radio where that came from! If you would like a copy of the show, please e-mail me. Otherwise I will be putting up segments in the next few weeks in my radio section.

In other news, I have started a new blog. Its called Corner Book Shop and it is about books! It will be updated periodically, as I read books. (Duh.) Its not really reviews, just reflections and thoughts on what I am reading. The first post is REALLY long, but don’t be deterred! Not only will the rest of them not be that long, its all about a fascinating read, so well worth the work.

Otherwise, you should also check out my wedding blog at A Feminist Wedding.

Next up, fringe play! I will keep you posted.

Passover Special on the (204)

On April 11, I passoverwill be guest hosting The (204) on CBC Manitoba on Radio One 89.3 FM. The show will focus on my experience  celebrating the Passover holiday away from home. I know what your thinking, “What are you. 12 years old?” And no, I am not 12 years old, but I am a neurotic worrier and change comes with diffuclty and a lot of humor. It should be a good time, so listen in.

In other news…does anyone else find the Montana’s commercial with the talking animal heads mounted on the wall super creepy?

Hi there. Thanks for visiting my blog. I will be using this site to keep people updated on what is going on with my career, where they can find my writing, and what I will be doing next. I am working on putting all the information up right now, so please be patient and I navigate through an unfamiliar cyber world.

Thanks!
